How is critical thinking used today? This is a typical question that a student in a non-nursing major may ask, but here at the Christ College, we would be happy to answer that for you. As a student nurse, I use and witness critical thinking and clinical reasoning in the clinical field every day. To better understand this topic, I found two articles to read and review. The first article I found is based on education and the second shows the view of a well-practiced nurse. The first article I chose was Nursing education and the importance of critical thinking by Robyn Knapp. This article explains the roles and responsibilities of registered nurses and how they have changed over the years. Finally, documentation is a very important part in critically thinking. Many nursing students have it stamped in our heads, that â€Å"If it wasn’t documented, it wasn’t done.† The second article I chose was Critical thinking skills: Learned or nurtured? by Elizabeth Thompson. So, are these skills learned or nurtured? The article also spoke about how difficult it is to define critical thinking skills and how it is even harder to evaluate them. Since these skills are so hard to define, can they be taught or are they supported and enabled? There are new nurses that struggle in their environment the same way experienced nurses do. They say the best way to learn is to be thrown on the floor and learn from experience. This is something I definetly agree with. It also talked about how sometimes people might be afraid to deviate from the policy because they do not want to get into trouble, but the policies don’t always cover every situation. So there is a barrier between new and old learning, new and old nurses, and new and old policies. I think that the first article was more useful than the second. One of his new friends name was Raymond Washington. The two of them created an alliance that was called the Crips, which was founded to protect the neighborhood from larger gangs. The original Crips consisted of about 30 members but they soon would split into the Westside and the Eastside Crips. In 1979 the Crips had become a statewide gang and Williams and Washington lost control of the group. In 1979 Washington was shot and killed, which was blamed on the Hover faction of the Hoover faction of the Crips, which led to war between Hoover and other factions of the Crips. No arrests were made, but theories state that Washington knew his killer. Williams and some of his fellow member were high on PCP-laced cigarettes, than drove to a convince store and robed it. Williams than took the storeowner to the while the others robbed the store, shot out the security cameras and than released two bullets execution-style shot to the back. They only profited 120 dollars from the robbery. Prosecutors than say Williams broke into a hotel office Brookhaven and shot and killed three members of the family who owned the motel. The gun used was linked to Williams’s shotgun and several gang members testified that Williams was indeed bragged about it. Williams denied this shooting as well, claiming that other members of the gang framed him. In 1981, Williams was convicted of murder and two counts of robbery in the Los Angles superior Court, which he was sentenced to death. On April 20th he was sent to San Quentin to sit on death row. Williams didn’t adjust well to prison life, and by the mid 80’s he was given six and a half years in solitary confinement fro multiple assaults n guards and fellow inmates. After about two years in confinement he started examined his life’s choices and repented for his actions. He attributed his transformed to God, and he began to speak out against gang violence. In 1988 he filed an federal appeal that he was a changed man but his appeal was denied. In 1994 he was released from solitary confinement. With his new mind set he started writing a book with the help of a lady named Barbra Cottman Becnel, and published eight books about anti-gang books aimed at children. In 2002 Mario Fehr, a member of the Swiss Parliament, nominated Williams for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition for his work against gang violence. Although he did not win the award, many supporters spoke out in favor of the ormer gang members transformation into social reformer. He would be nominated for the honor six times in total. That same year, Williams appealed again for a commuted death sentence. The appeals panel urged the judge to consider commuting Williams death sentence to life behind bars, citing the former gang members efforts toward anti-gang education. The appeal failed once aga in. In 2004, Williams helped create the Tookie Protocol For Peace, a peace agreement for one of the deadliest and most infamous gang wars in the country between the Crips and their rival, the Bloods. Williams received a letter from President George W. Bush commending him for his actions. That same year, his book Blue Rage, Black Redemption: A Memoir 2004 was published. The book was written with the intention to warn kids away from following Williams life of crime. I felt after he was rehabilitated that he should have been given some kind of immunity for work he had done with the anti-gang efforts. And was even nominated for a Nobel Piece Prize. The man truly trans formed himself from a dangerous gang leader to a leader of anti-gang violence.

After being married to Mr Birling for so long, she has gradually lost her own character and has now succumbed to just agreeing with whatever Mr Birling says. Her role in Eva Smith’s death was turning Eva down when she went to the charitable committee for help. She also makes it clear that she does not really care about her death, and if anything she blames the girl herself â€Å"girls of that class† meaning that she thinks she’s worthless in this world and that she’s a waste of space. She’s also very disingenuous; we know this because she says, â€Å"Though naturally I don’t know anything about this girl†. She clearly does though, by her denial to accept playing a part in her death and the siding up to her husband the audience also find it hard to feel sympathy towards her.

Electronic Sound Electronic Sound Even 100 Years History of Electronic Instruments before the turn of the century, when the electronic age was still in its infancy, the first attempts to generate sound from electricity had begun. By 1901, Thaddeus Cadhill had already manufactured the Telharmonium, an electric organ, powered by dynamos and designed to send sound down telephone lines. The Telharmonium proved to be the first of several forward-thinking electronic instruments to be developed in the early part of the century, the most important of which was the Theramin. Named after its Russian inventor Leon Theramin and consisting of a box with two ariels sticking out to control volume and pitch, the Theramin was the favorite instrument of Russian revolutionary leader Lenin. It was also manufactured for a short time in the United States, and although Theramin's ideas proved too progressive for the American public, they would later inspire Robert Moog to develop his first synths. Other electronic instruments, like the rautonium, the Odnes Martenot and the first mass-market electronic instrument, the Hammond Organ, continued to pop up through the 20's and 30's. It was with the arrival of magnetic tape, developed around the same period and perfected during World War II, that the next major innovation in electronic music occurred, as the use of found-sound opened a new world of musical possibilities. Steve Reich experimented with manipulating tape to affect pitch or speed. Although tape editing was a difficult process that involved physically cutting and splicing the different sections together, tape continued to be used by anyone wishing to manipulate recorded sound until samplers were introduced in the 1980s. At the same time as tape was being used to unlock the world of found-sound, the development of electronically generated or synthesized sound was continuing apace. American Hugh Le Caine developed a proto-type synth (short for synthesizer) with his 'electronic sackbut' in 1948. The room-sized RCA synthesizer was active throughout the 50's and others continued to work on the idea of electronic synthesis. Finally, in the early 60's Robert Moog expanded the idea of the Theramin into what would become the first ever commercially available synth, the Moog. The first synth's were clumsy modular systems the size of sideboards and changing sound on them meant negotiating a mass of wires or 'patch-chords'. However, they did allow users to sculpt their own sounds and provided the blue print for every synth that had come after. From the late 60's onwards, electronic instruments, effects and production techniques became an increasingly familiar feature of popular music. The arrival of psychedelic rock had a big impact. Artists like The Beatles and the Beach Boys experimented with tape loops, over-dubs and other studio trickery. Others like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd fed guitars through layers of effects to create powerful, strange and fiercly electronic new sounds. At the same time as electronic sound was being incorporated into a traditional rock blueprint, others were using similar technology to create radically different forms of music. Perhaps the most obvious example are the German bands Can, Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream. These bands blended the futurism of their avante garde classical backgrounds with a pop aesthetic for incredible results. Kraftwerk in particular must go down as perhaps the single-most influential act in the history of dance music. Techno visionaries who used modified synths, Kraftwerk self-designed sequencers and improved drum pads to create a radical sound that spawned a string of US dancefloor hits throughout the 70's and early 80's. Important and certainly commercially successful pioneers were the many funk and soul artists to notice the potential of electronic sound at an early stage. Stevie Wonder was an early Moog client, while George Clinton's P-Funk mob used synths and outboard effects to add weight to their bass-lines and create unusual dancefloor sounds. With a space-age sound to match their sci-fi image, P-Funk laid-out a blueprint that would be picked up by generations of dance producers. The release of the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 in 1978 saw the next big step in synth design since the Mini-Moog. It offered polyphonic sound, which meant that you could play more than one note at a time. It was the beginning of a particularly fertile period in the growth of electronic music technology, with samplers, digital synths, sequencers and programmable drum machines all becoming commercially available within the next few years.
